PRE-SERVICE TEACHERS VIRTUAL EVENT

When It Gets Real: Considering the Complexities of Safe Spaces in the ELA Classroom
graphic for ICTE preservice event (1).pn

Join a panel of teachers and the ICTE for a special virtual event for ICTE members!

Teaching remains one of the most important and rewarding professions in the world. It’s also really hard. And even though we all want students to feel safe in the spaces of our classrooms, we rarely sit down to discuss what exactly that means, what it demands, and what it potentially risks. We would like to focus this virtual presentation specifically on preservice educators. In the spirit of cultivating a safe space in which we can, ironically, complicate the notion of safe spaces, our panelists will explore topics that include:

  • How can safe spaces accommodate every student's voice?

  • What does safety mean, anyway?

  • What are the limitations of safe classroom spaces?

  • Under what circumstances would we ever seek to disrupt safety, and what happens when we do?

Registration

Registration is now open for the event. The event is free to ICTE members. If you are not a member, you can sign up for a free membership.

The ICTE is adopting NCTE's convention policies for this event. Attendees are expected to adhere to these policies. Any transgression will result in immediate removal from the virtual event. By registering, you are acknowledging these policies and agreeing to abide by them.
