Greetings and salutations, ICTE members!

On behalf of the ICTE Executive Board, I want to welcome you to the 2026-2027 school year. I am Dr. Jennifer Broome, and it is my pleasure to serve as your current ICTE president. I am currently an associate professor of English education at Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame; prior to this appointment, I was a high school English teacher in North Carolina. I follow in the lofty footsteps of past ICTE president Lauren Rich and many others who have worked to make this organization what it is today.

The entire Executive Board is excited to be of service to you this academic year. This organization is founded on four pillars of service. These are:

  1. To support the professional growth of English teachers in Indiana.

  2. To increase the effectiveness of the teaching of English in Indiana.

  3. To bring about coordination of Indiana's professional organizations of ELA teachers.

  4. To further the association between the ICTE and the NCTE.

As a reminder, a diverse collection of current services are available to our members. One such resource is the ICTE blog (https://indianaenglishteac.wixsite.com/icte/blog), which runs monthly articles dedicated to assisting your teaching practice and deepening your thoughts about your role as a teacher, classroom leader, and lover of English. All currently registered members also have access to our newsletter, which will be published the third week of the month during the academic year. Conference planning for 2027 is already underway, with the location, theme, and call for presentations to be posted in September. We will also be opening applications for our $500 classroom library grant and finding the next Indiana High School Teacher of Excellence, who will receive a partial grant to attend the NCTE conference in November 2027.

We  also are exploring additional ways to serve the ICTE community. Potential future programming includes workshops with PGPs attached, Zoom meetings with authors and experts in the discipline, book giveaways, and more. If any of these sound of interest, or you have an idea for a service ICTE can provide, please feel free to email us at ICTEPresident@gmail.com.

It is important to note that ICTE serves pre-K teachers through college professors, as well as media specialists, curriculum directors, and others involved in the teaching of English/Language Arts. Membership is free, so please encourage your colleagues to sign up for a membership at https://indianaenglishteac.wixsite.com/icte/become-a-member

The ICTE Executive Board would like to thank our membership for all they do for students, schools, and society. Teaching is often difficult work, especially so in these current times. We see you, we are listening to you, and we exist to be of service to you. Please stay up-to-date with us through the newsletter, blog, and website, and feel free to communicate with us as needed.

Happy Back to School,

Jenn Broome
